Starting A New Construction Project? Why You Need To Hire A Building Certifier

Posted on

If you're going to be starting on a new construction project, it's time to build your team. If you haven't hired a building certifier, you're missing a vital member of the construction team. You might not realise this, but any major construction project requires a building certifier, whether it's a new construction project or a renovation or remodelling project. If the project is a major undertaking, you need to have a building certifier on your team. During the construction process, your building certifier will provide you with certification that allows you to proceed to the next phase of the project. Read the list provided below. Here are the four types of certification you'll need from your building certifier.

Pre-Construction Certification

If you're ready to start your construction project, the first thing you'll need is your pre-construction certificate. This is the certification that allows you to get started on your project. During this phase, your building certifier will take a look at your construction plans, and your building specifications. If everything is in order, you'll receive your building permits, your pre-construction certification or complying development certificates. Once you have those, you can begin the construction phase.

Compliance Certification

During the construction phase, you can expect to receive several inspections. During each inspection, the building certifier will be checking to make sure that your project is in compliance, and that all regulations are being followed. If the building certifier is satisfied with the work, and there are no issues, you'll receive compliance certification. If not, you'll be issued a list of items that need to be addressed. Once those issues are resolved, you'll receive your compliance certificates, which will allow you to proceed with your project.

Completion Certification

Once your construction project is completed, your building certifier will conduct a completion inspection. During the inspection, your building certifier will ensure that the plans were followed, that there are no defects in the final project and that the project is ready to be signed off on. At that point, your building certifier will issue your completion certificates, meaning that the project is complete.

Occupancy Certification

After your new construction project is complete, and you've received the completion certificate, there's still one certification you'll need. That's the occupancy certificate. This certificate ensures that the building is authorized for occupancy and use. Once you have that certificate, the building can be used according to plans.
