Why Lasers Are Taking Over The Metal Cutting Industry

Posted on

Metal is one of the most widely used materials in the world, including everything from steel to aluminium and everything in between. Australia produces a lot of metal, and much of that is used within its shores in the many construction projects that are always underway. If you have a need for metal to be cut to a specific shape or size, then traditionally you would use a saw or a special type of blade that is strong enough to do so. Now, however, lasers are coming into their own. The next time you need metal cutting, here are a few reasons why you should choose lasers.

More Precise

Metal laser cutting is more precise than traditional cuttingoptions for a very obvious reason: lasers have as small, or as large, a point as you need. They can make tiny little cuts and etches or they can saw huge chunks into the metal's surface. They are also more accurately controlled by a computer than traditional metal cutting options. All of this reduces the chance of human error, and therefore the metal has a much more finished touch when it is finished. If your project hinges on the metal being cut to a fraction of a millimetre, then metal laser cutting is the technique you should trust.

Quicker Turnaround

One thing that is always the same no matter how much technology gets introduced is just how busy and tight the schedules of those in the construction industry can be. It can feel like you are just staying afloat despite being as organised and efficient as possible. Luckily for you, metal laser cutting has a much faster turnaround than many alternative options. The machines are easy to set up, the cutting is fast and accurate and there is little room for error.

Smoother Finish

Metal can be quite a coarse material at the best of times, and when it is sawn through with a metal blade, the edges can get roughed up, the material can become warped and you may even need to spend a few hours reshaping it and sanding down the edges. Metal laser cutting has no such impact on the structural integrity of the piece of metal you intend to cut. It is frictionless and virtually like slicing a knife through warm butter. Don't waste time fixing a mistake you didn't need to make; use lasers and see the immediate difference in quality.
