Two Tips for Security-Conscious People Who Want to Make Their Home's Windows More Secure

Posted on

If you want to minimise the risk of an intruder getting into your home through your property's windows, here are some tips that you may find useful.

Buy a set of louvre windows from a reliable manufacturer for the warmer rooms in your home

If there are certain rooms in your home that tend to get quite stuffy during the hotter periods of the year (for example, the rooms on the upper floors of your home may feel warm, as heat rises upwards), then you may find yourself wanting to leave the windows in these areas open, in order to allow some cool air to come in.

However, if a standard window is left open and unattended, it would be very easy for an intruder to climb in through it, as most residential windows are large enough for an adult to fit through when they are fully opened.

One solution to this problem is to buy some louvre windows from a manufacturer like Renson. The louvre windows produced by this and other companies feature glass slats, the angle of which can be adjusted to allow air to pass through them.

These are a much more secure option in any room where you prefer to keep your window open, as the gaps between the slats are small, and as such, would be impossible for anyone to climb through.

In short, Renson's louvre windows will give you the best of both worlds: the security that comes with knowing that criminals cannot easily sneak into your home through an open window, and the convenience and comfort that comes with being able to allow a cool breeze to enter your home via the windows.

Apply security film to the windows which are easy to access from the outside

Another way to make your windows more secure is to purchase some security film and apply this to the panes that would be easy for a potential intruder to access from the outside.

This might include all of the windows on the ground floor, as well as any windows on the upper floors that could be accessed by climbing a drain pipe or a tree.

This film will make it far more difficult for a criminal to shatter your windows with a tool (like a hammer, for example). Whilst it will not make your home's windows impenetrable, it will drastically increase the length of time and the amount of effort it will take any intruders to break one of the glass panes.

This is a point worth noting, as most intruders want to get into a house as quickly and quietly as possible (to minimise their chances of being noticed by anyone), and as such, are likely to give up if they do not succeed in breaking a window after a few seconds of hitting it.
