Three Essential Elements for a Custom Bathroom Design

Posted on

When building a custom home, you have to personalise every room in the house with the designs and fixtures that resonate with your style. This means that you decide how every room in the house will look like and what will go into it. The bathroom is one of the essential places in the house, but it is often considered as an afterthought. However, well-designed bathroom spaces can increase the functionality and convenience of your new home. So how do you go about designing the bathrooms in your custom house? Here are three essential elements that define the space and which should be given much thought during the design process.

Bath area

The bathroom is primarily used for taking showers and baths. As you design it, you should think about how you want the bath area to look. Do you want to have a bathtub or will you go for a shower or both? Both of these elements will influence the style of the entire room; therefore, you cannot change your mind once the work is in motion. The electrical wiring required for a bathtub will differ from that used for the shower. Also, when choosing a shower, you have to decide whether you need a walk-in shower or the traditional kind. Iron out these details and find a style that meets your needs. For example, for a shared bathroom, a walk-in shower would be more appropriate as compared to a bathtub.

Bathroom cabinetry

Another significant aspect of your bathroom design is the cabinetry. In this case, you should be thinking about the vanities, under-sink cabinets and drug shelves. Their positioning and design will affect the appearance of your bathroom. For example, if you go for floor vanities, they will take up much of the space and make your bathroom look small. If you are working with a small area, consider going for floating vanities and shelves to maximise on space. For a shared bathroom, double sinks and under-sink storage solutions would be ideal. Work with your new home builders to come up with a cabinetry design that will meet your needs.

Bathroom flooring

Bathroom flooring materials constitute a significant consideration when designing your custom home. What materials should use? Will they withstand the heavy traffic and high moisture levels in the space? You should select a durable and non-porous material unless you want to repair the floor regularly. Materials such as hardwood and laminate are out of the picture as they do not perform well in high-moisture areas. Instead, consider going for porcelain, ceramic, natural stone and luxury vinyl tiles.

When you decide to go custom, every design aspect of your home is in your power. Work with your custom home builder to create design elements that will increase the functionality of your new house.
